About Daniel Arnold, shooting from the hip and instagram
Recently on this blog I expressed my idea about shooting from the hip as you can read clicking here. Yesterday I shared on instagram:
There was a time when shooting from the hip was object of shaming from certain haters. Anything has changed thanks to cameras like Ricoh but especially thanks to Photographers like @arnold_daniel that I appreciate a lot.
For more context I recommend that you watch this video:
Seeing him in action I found myself very much in his way of photographing on the street. Many photographers who have no idea how this can work do not understand that this is part of talent and is not, as they think, a reliance on chance. In fact, the idea is widespread that a shot from the hip is the last resort, when in reality it is neither more nor less a technique, one of many, which however allows you to take a very different street photography.
On instagram to my words of comment to the sharing, a tasty debate between photographers was born.
I will have the opportunity to return to this topic. I add here that there should be no preconceived ideas and preclusions with respect to a technique that used properly allows you to take otherwise impossible shots or in any case they would be different. Shooting from the hip is not hiding yourself and is not just…from the hip, just like somethone thinks. In fact it allows you also to point the camera even closer to your subject in certain situations.
I conclude this post recommending to look at the work of Daniel Arnold because is very interesting and I consider him one of the photographers proposing great stuff in these times.
