Alex Street Photography Highlights - April 2026
The month selection
We start with a photo that is part of a series taken at the Monterrey airport with my iPhone 8.
Photographers today love to talk about vintage. But today, true vintage isn't a mirrorless camera with an old-fashioned design; true vintage is shooting with a DSLR in 2026. And this photo is a celebration of my understanding of vintage.
In this photo, I love the mood and all the imperfection of shooting through the bus window. I took it with a promise to myself that one day I'd get off and photograph that place.
While some idiots do composites in post-production and then try to pass them off as street photography, I do composites in the real world, using lines that I observe and creating an optical effect, but in the real world and not in the world of idiots.
By now even the stones know that in this monthly selection of mine I include everything that seems interesting to me... Alex Street Photography Highlights refers to the highlights of Alex Street and I don't care whether they fall within the definition of street photography or not.
How you place it inside the frame and how you solve the visual equation.
How it enters the frame and how it exits. In the end, it often comes down to this. I like the management of speed here, and therefore something moves. A shot that breathes.
Sweet and disturbing at the same time.
In my opinion, photography should never be didactic to truly convey something. And I don't expect you to agree with me.
I don't care about street photography taken by people who use compasses and protractors. The energy of the moment prevails.
April was a month with little street photography for me. I was busy with two editorial assignments that required me to travel. I had to prepare assignments, so I didn't shoot much street photography, and I did so in a rather rushed and distracted manner. I often didn't have the chance to concentrate as I usually do. But it was more important to prioritize, obviously, my work as a journalist.
