Barrio fight: Canon EOS M200 vs T7

This is not a real comparison. It is more a game. Not even the images are of the same number.

After 1 year with Canon cameras, DSLRs and mirrorless I feel is the moment to propose something particular. The barrio is another kind of photography experience. I am using my cameras depending on the day and what I have to do, so sometimes is better to have with me my reflex and sometimes the smallest one. Here we go with this battle, starting with the M200:

CANON EOS M200 + 22mm f2

CANON EOS REBEL T7 + 24mm f2.8

Considerations

In the barrio the rules are different. And usually I carry my camera when I go for food and other errands. The reflex has a neck strap and the mirrorless has a wrist strap. I am shooting with the M200 mostly in aperture priority, with the Rebel I use manual mode with AUTO ISO. I find the experience that comes from using the reflex more meditative. And also more like film, especially for the use of the optical viewfinder. Even the resulting result, speaking purely of generated files, seems to me to be a little bit more organic and imperfect on T7.

The two different ways of working are derived from empirical tests which, especially on the M200, make me say that it's not a very manual mode camera. The Auto ISOs seem to me much more precise on DSLR while on mirrorless they almost always tend to stay as low as possible and this creates a lot of blurry photos.

What I love most? I would say most and for different reasons. With the smallest camera I can be more invisible but the reflex is pretty good because even if the small difference in focal range makes me prefer it for photographing structures and for more portrait photos. On a general level I consider the mirrorless more suitable for classic street photography especially in the historical centre, while for the barrio, now that I have got used to its inhabitants, I prefer the reflex. While there was a time when I was afraid to shoot with a reflex in certain places, today I feel that the reflex is the one that gives me the most peace of mind: the price has collapsed for many models and in the unfortunate occasion of being stolen, the damage would be very small. Furthermore, it is the feeling of having a more serious camera, with which I can practically do everything from portraits to street. So if you ask me about the barrio, yes I say that for the barrio I prefer to have the reflex with me.
