Flash Mood

Street photographers' use of flash labels you right away

And this is wrong. A photographer as a human being is multi-faceted. We can make different things and love ‘em all. I have no problems with flash and I don't think using it on the street is unethical. I recognize that resorting to it systematically can be a sort of clever thing, because even very trivial things with flash can make a photo exceptional, when it isn't at all.

If we are looking for a surreal effect and to give a different dimension to our shots, the flash in styrada can be a winning solution and at the same time a very fun experience.

The suggestion I feel to make, guys, is to have a positive attitude, smile and avoid being a dick. The flash certainly exposes you more to confrontations because not all the people are OK with having their face suddenly lighted by a flash. But I am a witness that if done with a good approach most of the time people don't have a negative or even violent reaction. I worked with flash in the US and Mexico and I've never had a bad experience doing it.

I propose here a selection of old street shots made with flash.
