They told me that my photography cannot be fully understood by those who think that street photography should be relegated only to a nice moment. But I believe and pursue only one thing: a faithful portrait of what the street is.
Someone even wanted to establish ethical codes on what to photograph and what not. Never agreed.
There must be no rules as to what is a form of expression. You have to respect the rules on the street to protect yourself and others, but you shouldn't think about applying a universal code to photography.
There are some things on the street that are certainly hard to see and metabolize, but no matter how hard they are there, they exist and if for you, a street photographer, your goal is to make a portrait of what the road is, don't remove poles, you don't remove dirt, you don't remove a subject. This idea of cute and nice street photography I eschew it.
Should I start photographing tourists only? Hey, guys, I know other street photographers do that. I am not like other street photographers. And I don’t go only in nice places. Of course, I always photograph with respect, that should be a universal rule. But don't tell me about the rules of what to photograph and what not. That belongs to the novices who read some decalogue on the internet.
Don’t mistake respect with a ban on photographing certain subjects or themes.
