Highlights April 2023
An intense month that no selection with 10 photos could really represent
The first photo of the day never made the highlights, until today. A scene that has lateral thinking, ambiguous and surreal. Besides, I was sweating…
And speaking of ambiguous images, here is one that is certainly not immediately readable, with an effective composition, completely anarchic and derivative of what I found.
Here is one of those photos that few now think of sharing on the internet. Too blurry. Imperfect. Unbalanced. But there is filmic magic despite being a digital shot. A direct consequence of my turning quickly, framing through the optical viewfinder of my reflex and shooting. As it should be, in my opinion, street photography.
From my first, dedicated work in Tlatelolco. Of which this image, in some ways, is a worthy representation of the place. I fell in love with the place, a popular neighborhood, full of history and stories.
This month, there has been a personal attention to people's clothing, especially certain urban clothing.
I know you're used to seeing street shots here, but there aren't only those and I'm still interested in life shot at all times. There was alcohol in my body and the flash turned up.
I don't abandon the urban landscape. Here I shoot with an 80mm equivalent in the state of Mexico (EDOMEX) which I have been to several times this month. This image opens to a project that I intend to carry out but to do it I will need the support of many people who love my work. I hope to be able to launch my crowdfunding campaign soon.
This photo accompanies the previous one. There are so many ways to offer a reflection of society. We don't necessarily have to do it by including people. The opportunity offered to me by the social street landscape connects to a very deep side of my research as a photographer.
I saw this little girl who was holding this drawing on the other side of the glass. I recognized the potential of this shot immediately. Everything else is serendipity. I'm quite lucky with this.
I will never stop taking portraits. Portraits that I take most of the time on the street without asking. I just take them.
Notes
My primary interest is making art all the time now. I no longer think so much about documentation or how much an agency might be interested in. In this April a lot of gonzography came out, fueled by my personal life. An everlasting Japanese approach which leads me to a total enjoyment of what I do. With an even greater creative vein.
