Highlights June 2023

A month spent to renew my approach, with subtle, perhaps imperceptible changes

I am happy with this shot. Intuition and speed of execution. It is a blurry photo, certainly. And still effective.

You who follow me know that I take a lot of pictures of restaurant windows. I think I will never stop this. The result in balance is fundamental, which otherwise could be chaotic and miss the point.

Speaking of shop windows and reflections, here is an example where I managed to convey certain characteristic elements of the Zona Rosa, a district with its own distinctive character, into the composition.

The street is able to give us truly peculiar moments and it is this infinite series of combinations that leads to the desire to be there, on the street, and continue to photograph without ever getting tired. An irresistible call for me.

Chapultepec occupies a special place in my history as a photographer. And here are some elements that inevitably refer to the work I did for Leica in 2013.

CDMX’s Downtown is a very beaten and perhaps even overused place. The risk is that of excessively showing the same places, becoming repetitive. However, if you manage to isolate certain parts, the microcosm is still able to give a lot of surprise to the observer. Here is a clipping of a central street that seems interesting to me.

I like this hand to cover her identity. It adds mystery to the image and the gesture is absolutely daily and human. I find much benefit from this type of observation: maybe the secret of street photography is exactly in photos like that.

How much documentation of human condition is there in this photograph? And how much theater of the surreal? Even in the barrio I receive inputs to which a street photographer cannot remain indifferent.

How good am I? No subject looks at me. And I was close and I did nothing to hide from taking pictures.

For me, it is important to convey human emotions within a frame. This is what street photography is often about. This is what interests me. A lively photograph because it is empathic, really interested in humans.

I conclude this overview through the photos of the month with two photos that see me included in the frame, first the piece below and then the upper part. Taking pictures of myself is part of the game because I'm interested in the question of the photographer's experience in a sort of ontological inspection of the street photographer's activity.

Notes

A particular month that has shaken me on a personal level through a different awareness that involves me in my most intimate side and which, inevitably, also ends up influencing the way I experience photography. Even more I realize that the objectives pursued by other photographers do not coincide with mine. I'm working to achieve my goals that are not what others use to seek. I am different. I always have been and the path I'm on now will clarify that even more.

I'm pushing street photography towards an even more personal and preparatory road to what are the pre-established objectives, but without haste and without forcing. I know exactly where I want to go and it's not what many people think. Once again ready to impress. First of all to myself.
