Highlights May 2023
A comfortable month, where I pushed towards various projects that will develop in the near future
That burn should declare the spontaneous nature in which the shot was born. I didn't ask for permission: I simply got as close as possible and snapped. The man's style was too strong an appeal.
When is a photo iconic? I believe that most of the time it is derived from people's expressions and gestures.
Street photography, its essence, is given by surprising moments captured without any preparation and by the immediate recognition of a moment in which you have to be quick to take the picture. Forget all the bluster with a pretension to conceptual, staged and fake. Street Photography is the real moment.
How much real humanity can you convey in a photo? Question yourself about this. Photography is not about repeating a scheme. How much you can talk with your inner voice when you are on the street with your camera?
If the main subject had been in focus and the rest out of focus it wouldn't have had the same strength. I wouldn't even consider the picture for sharing.
They tell me I'm crazy to put myself in certain places. I confirm: I am. And once there I certainly don't shy away from taking pictures, from doing my job, come what may.
There is too much timeless aesthetic in this photo. So I should propose it here.
For me, being on the street with the camera is equivalent to an all-encompassing experience. I don't necessarily have to do the street photography you expect and I love to photograph the urban environment.
All Eyez On Me sang 2Pac.
This month I returned to photographing Luna for the first issue of the kern project. I think it's only fair to insert a photo here to offer a preview of a job that has kept me quite busy during the month.
Notes
This month counts with less photography done overall, but I learned so much on several fronts. I would also call it a month of personal reflection on what I want to be, not just as a photographer. The future is still retracing one's steps, re-embracing certain things abandoned more as a compromise than anything else.
