Highlights November 2024

A particular month, with the first part busy with my assignment in Guadalajara and then several private workshops given in Mexico City

The first street shot ever made in Guadalajara, after the conclusion of the assignment. Jalisco is well known for the beauty of women and I thought this shot is interesting.

Despite I did have just 20 minutes to make my street photography in Guadalajara I immediately recognized that is a fantastic city for street photographers.

That hand justifies the shot, another photo made in the capital of Jalisco.

Photographing to say something. Always. This is the only important thing.

Always restless. I have been modifying the technique on the street several times this month. Perhaps also derived from a different awareness of myself as a photographer, of the new dimension I have. And then I undo everything and do it again.

Emotion is what justifies my presence in photography. And the story of one emotion leads to other emotions.

What does consistency mean to you? Here is this image that pairs with the one you see on the homepage of the site. My history of the barrios starts from these views, of the humanist landscapes.

Here Brassai and Kertesz emerge as references in my work. For me, in many ways, street photography has remained the same. That's why those photos awarded at festivals mean nothing to me. I aim at another level.

I'm lucky. To live here. That's all I'll say.

A photo that is not perfect at all, but good to close this black and white selection of an intense month.

The selection would normally end with the previous photo, but every now and then I will dedicate a week to color. Just to not lose practice. And to declare: I am a black and white photographer, but I can also take color photos.

Naturally, in color, you have to know how to manage colors and respect their hierarchy. Otherwise, let's forget it. As I do most of the time, since with black and white I can tell everything I care about.

Street photography, my street photography, moves through an identity process of the place I photograph. For me it is very important.

Street is also meeting. And street for me is also seeing at the last moment, shooting quickly, while walking. To me, excessively studied and prepared street is mortally boring. With all due respect to certain masters that everyone is always talking about. That sometimes those masters are also quite assholes in life.

Yes, I know it's crooked. But don't bother. I was crossing a wide road. I think it works.

Do you think I have a problem shooting at close range? My students know it well. But it can't be for every photo. Just as the flash can't be the only way to photograph. Otherwise you'll be like the one who photographs a fish with the flash and even a banal thing will necessarily become interesting.

This is a postcard. Of course. And this is also useful to me and my photography. To my proposal. To what I then achieve as a professional.

How much is the simple shot practiced? And how much is the simple not simple but apparently simple?

CONCLUSIONS

A full month. A month where I accomplished different realities and many people.

About my being a photographer and my being a street photographer.

In the last part of the year my career found a new important point.

I am serene thanks to a different awareness. Without getting carried away and the proof is that I have even questioned the way I shoot. Once again. Now and always. Because this is who I am. Because I don't believe there is only one way to get to where I want to get to. Because I still have a lot to achieve. Because I am even better than what you see. And I still have a lot to study and improve.
