Highlights September 2021 Sep 24 Written By Alex Coghe This month… That girl dancing made the photo in my opinion. I was on the other side of the street when i have seen the scene. At first sight I was attracted by the position of people waiting the bus, then the girl appeared improvising a dance. This is a landscape photo. I like to make wide shots. I was in a bridge and I photographed the landscape above. The composition results with several interesting elements and there is not a negative part in the composition. The 2 women open and close the frame as I see it, they represent an invitation to get into the frame. I am interested as a photographer to show a lot of urbanity in Mexico but also how the human fills the space. My street photography feeds on moments like this. An introspective moment on the busy Saturday in the historic center is something worth telling. Physical separation then also becomes metaphysical. On the purely form level, we would have to discuss the Gestalt psychology that has given me so much as a photographer. Can the heads of mannequins be enough as a justification for the shot? In the PANDEMIC LIFE project, which sees me engaged and which I am proposing to agencies, there is a social reflection that justifies shots like this. The change that has taken place within our society in these two years has been abrupt and from many points of view devastating.Referring specifically to this shot, it is interesting to observe how the reflection of our time and our living today affects my research on the street. This is a photo that reflects in all respects the times we are living. With the differences of thought and even social if we want. This is a shot I took immediately after the previous one included in this article. I have see the smoke and I immediately shot. There is not so much to say. This is the first shot I edited with my new computer. And it is black and white. It is also a photo that received the appreciation from Tatsuo Suzuki, a victim of Fujifilm policy like me. I was in one of the local markets ehere I am used to go. Broken heads seem interesting to me. Am a violent person? Maybe. Or maybe others are violent. You decide. Of photos like these I like the essence of the street that I can grasp. They are photos taken while I walk. They are photos that are all based on instinct. I'm not even interested in revealing who knows what for photos like these, but rather an essence of the moment. September in Mexico are patriotic days. This means that we did have a lot of streets closed several days in downtown. With my 35mm lens (that is a 37.5) I tend to single out more the subject. The woman in the foreground is clearly the one emerging in the composition. I think it works. As I repeaqt often I am just an old school street photographer and for me gesture is a good reason to raise up my camera and shooting. The blue is evident and creates a connection. Then there are personal considerations: we live in a gagged society. Even historical monuments are covered. They put the gag on you and you put it on. And if you don't obey they will expel you. I am a warrior and I laugh at all this. I am still a free man. Mannequin pieces, human pieces. The sexy. The skin. The plastic. Don’t touch. With that is really all for this month.
