I shot the Soumaya museum

Rising like a shimmering sculpture in the heart of Mexico City, the Soumaya Museum is impossible to ignore.

Named after Carlos Slim’s late wife, Soumaya Domit, this private museum was founded to house his extensive art collection and make it accessible to the public. With over 66,000 pieces spanning centuries, from European masters to Mexican muralists, the museum is as much a cultural statement as it is an architectural marvel. Its futuristic, hexagonal-tiled exterior seems to ripple in the light, reflecting the city around it and challenging traditional notions of museum design.

During my visit, I focused on capturing the museum in black and white, stripping the colors away to emphasize the geometry, curves, and interplay of light and shadow. Each frame tells a story of form and structure, highlighting the audacity of its design and the way it interacts with the urban environment. Walking around this building with my camera, I found endless opportunities to explore contrast, texture, and perspective, creating images that celebrate both the building itself and the experience of photographing it.

All the photos made with Canon Rebel T7 and the Canon 50mm f1.8 STM

By having the lens mounted on my Canon Rebel the equivalent focal lenght is 80mm. That made me achieve to create more abstract photos. And it was a good way to get familiar with this lens recently purchased.
