In this video (and post) I reveal something about being ambassador for photography brands
Yesterday I finally published a video about my last instagram live where I reveal things about camera manufacturers. The video is in Spanish so here I will roughly summarize the content.
The live I made on Instagram was to present my new set-up for Street Photography.
But without having planned it, the discussion also shifted to certain dynamics within photographic brands, especially with their marketing strategies and with particular reference to ambassador programs.
Basically on the video I say that:
Canon M200 with its pancake lens is a great solution for my street photography, a thoughtful choice that already proves to be the right one for this phase of my photographic exploration
Leica Camera AG paid me a lot for the assignment realized in 2013 for them
Leica Camera AG is probably the only camera manufacturer paying well the photographers
The other brands mostly pay you with gear
I was paid most of the years by Fujifilm when I was amabassador
The other photographers usually were not paid by Fujifilm and in fact they didn't even want this information to be disseminated
Last year I was ambassador for them I was paid with gear
The cameras with which they paid me and the others also paid were those used, often used for fairs and exhibitions
A camera (X-Pro2) they given me was with the internal battery virtually dead and another one X-E2 with dirty sensor
I don’t want anymore to be part of an ambassador program for camera manufaturers
If any brand is interested I am ambassador for them they have to make me a really profitable proposition in terms of money and is not automatic that I accept because I prefer freedom
Let me add here that in 2020 I was paid half the money they usually gave me because Fujifilm was in crisis from the pandemic. In 2020 my workshops provided to them went online.
It is a controversial video, I know, but done with peace of mind. And I am aware that many readers are unaware of certain dynamics within photography brands. Often being inside an ambassador program is mythologized but most of the time it is about exploitation. And executives of the marketing area don't know shit about photography, there are former salesmen and representatives of chips and drinks who cannot deal with photographers. Their lack of vision and knowledge of the photographic medium makes everything very precarious and ridiculous.
In my experience so far only those working in Leica Camera AG are professionals that know what photography and photographers are.
