My gaze in a huge square
Zocalo. The main square in Mexico City is a huge square. Which I have photographed many times.
In photographing it, I can represent it through an overall view, highlighting its dimensions, showing its architectural point of view. The idea is to give a faithful, sincere representation of its majesty. In the photo you see the motorcyclist in the foreground becomes a false subject. In reality it is an introductory element, constituting in my idea the background an absolute importance. From a documentary point of view, the people who animate it show how the square is.
Looking at the microcosm, I focus on the details, dynamism and energy of a situation. Another way of representing the Zocalo, through the gaze of a street photographer who alights on minor events, on the normality of the daily routine, on gestures and expressions. And in this case the square becomes just an element of ambiance, the background of the stories that I want to stand out through my lens.
