My Yashica Electro 35 GSN
If you want to read a formal review I recommend you the one published by Ken Rockwell on his blog. Here I just talk about a poetic story.
There are objects that are pure beautiness, for their design, sober and classy. The Yashica Electro 35 GSN despite we live in a digital era is still respected by those understanding the real photography. It is because the value of the technical characteristics, the robust and quality construction, the look making of this camera a great rangefinder, ideal for travel and street photography. Equipped with a metallic and Leica charm, in fact it was named in the 70s the Leica of the poor ones. It was a time of Leica, Contax, Rollei, Zeiss, Voigtlander, master of the rangefinder camera market And Yashica with this camera proposed the first 35 mm with electronically controlled electromagnetic shutter (for this reason named Electro) and with an aperture priority automatic exposure. Cheaper than the competition, Yashica presented a great lens: the Yashinon 45mm f / 1.7, that is its real strength, recognized even today. I have seen also portraits that are fantastic with this lens.
I have several friends and colleagues that love this camera. Guys, you really don’t need to spend a fortune to work with a rangefinder.
Now I can’t wait to test my new old camera with a 400 ASA roll. In the meantime maybe you want to see a previous article published here where I share the results of my first roll with a Yashica Electro 35 GSN, in 2012:
