Principles of visual self-determination

In terms of visual seduction, it is necessary to put one's observing before what we are used to seeing and that keeps us comfortable.

Barriometro. Mexico City, 2022. Alex Coghe

This photograph is full of elements and therefore of information on a street in a popular neighborhood where I am used to going and photographing. We can learn a lot from photos like these which are essentially snapshots, perhaps even a little distracted, yet there is something that sublimates the view.

In the apparent error of including the foreground subject that covers and distracts attention there is actually a specific intention of not wanting to provide the whole plan but forcing you to pay extra attention precisely to what is partially covered. Through this visual dystonia I am carrying out an anti-compositional act that allows me to put the observer even more into the image and the task of analyzing its details.

And so, once inside, you begin to walk the frame by analyzing the rest which also reveals a time of year, with a specific celebration. The eye then rests on the bird vendor.

How much aesthethic is there? But how much does the photo reveal the essence of the place?
