Spider-Man, Manuel Alvarez Bravo and the memory
Memory is that thing that allows us to have the tangibility of being alive, of existing. Photography is an act aimed at memory.
I am not a fan of American comics. I prefer the Argentine and the Italian ones. But Spider-Man is Spider-Man. Peter Parker is a not perfect dude, a photojournalist, he photographs with a Yashica, in short, he's super cool.
I took this picture of a little boy in a Spider-Man shirt and then, that same day I purchase these items:
The ‘67 collection of Spider-Man cartoon is a memory recovery. When my father showed us this series with the projector. It was like magic. And now I have it again.
Unpublished portraits of Manuel Alvarez Bravo is a precious book containing portraits and therefore souls. The portrait is the quintessence of memory. I went to a book market and took a picture of photographs:
I have always been fascinated by the photos for sale in the flea markets. But at the same time fear. I feel like probing belongings that aren't mine. It's strange. Because I steal shots from strangers most of the time.
Memory can be wonderful but it can also be unsettling.
