Street Photography: the sense of community

Feeling super inspired as I am working a lot for the upcoming commitments (a street photography masterclass and the expedition in Oaxaca) and for these days of Autumn, my favourite season, that gets me full of energy and enthusiasm.

I continue to work to do things for the whole community of street photographers. For me it is about giving something to have a constant positive exchange within a community in which I recognize and identify myself.

Meanwhile this month I have achieved being selected among the photographers to be published in the yearbook of Mexican street photography:

I thank the jury and all the team at OBSERVADORES URBANOS for selecting my photograph. Do you want to know what is the photograph? OK, here you go:

this month also marks the 10th anniversary of my three-week experience in Los Angeles, California. It represented an important step for what came next. I still feel connected to that experience, and every time I look at the archival I come across one of the photos taken in California, memories resurface. I didn't have the experience I have today. The feeling is that I've done something important remains.

I remained anchored to that attitude and to that way of understanding street photography. For the first time, I experienced firsthand the sense of community with other photographers. Until then, photography had essentially been a solitary affair for me. In Rome and Mexico City the same.

After Los Angeles anything changed. In California I lived three weeks of meetings and comparisons with other photographers. We shot together. The perception was that he was doing something extremely artistic and also important. 10 years ago there was absolutely nothing like there is now: street photography festivals didn't exist. The resources on the internet were few and they were like pioneers of what was to come. I already had my community of street photographers in a classic forum as they used to at the time.I share with you two features (one for LIFE FORCE MAGAZINE, the other for THE LEICA CAMERA BLOG) about that great time in the city of angels:

Guys, I hope this post can be inspiring for you. I recommend you to be open and living the community of street photographers in a positive way. I am witness to how useful it can be. We are human and as such we are social animals and this nature will not change anything, not even a world plague. If we make street photography is because we love humans and the world around us.
