A good street photographer is the one able to read the situation and deciding what fits better in a certain scene. We must not be absolutist and think of solving everything with shadows and lights, but only when it actually makes sense.

When I see a particularly contrasty light situation, I will opt for spot metering, taking care to expose well and and get an impactful image.
