The last moment shot
There is a more thoughtful street photography but when you are in crowded streets the parameters of choice change.
When I photograph under certain conditions, it is fundamental to enter the rhythm of the flow. The street photographer becomes a dancer who follows the rhythm or a surfer careful to catch the right wave.
This is the least premeditated street photography that in any case requires an ability to preview the image, that is when the subjects will find themselves in an interesting moment and that has some photographic sense.
When you do photography that focuses on the subjects, perhaps using a lens that is around 35mm in focal length, you have to keep in mind the distance from the subject to get a shot that is harmonious with the context. There will be a well-defined subject and its history will be determined by the expression and some gesture. The energy that will be transmitted in the shot will also count, that vibrant tension that makes a shot in which you can smell the street, asphalt and metropolitan.
In the last minute shot there will be the definition of the result from the previous choices that occur in moments. This is not a quieter shot with subjects far enough away that you have more time to compose and control the scene.
This type of photographic action is inevitable when you are walking quickly on the street and want to have subjects very close.
Sometimes it happens to observe an action that is taking place a little distant from you. In that case, you accelerate your pace to prevent a certain gesture from ending before you have reached the right distance for the shot you have in mind.
You have more time to think about the best solution but you are also tense because the subject could interrupt what he is doing and make the scene absolutely uninteresting compared to what you had seen.
In that case it is essential not to observe the subject too much even if he were from behind. There are people who feel their eyes on them. And even if you have to accelerate your pace to reach the subject and shoot, you have to worry about doing it discreetly.
The last moment shot is a resource and a fundamental skill required of every self-respecting street photographer and can only be acquired with practice. There is no course that can give you this preparation but yourself and your camera on the street.
