The Starbucks showcase
In 2011 I did a mini project in Los Angeles, photographing a shop window. That set includes the famous photo of the woman you see on the homepage. After 10 years in regaining possession of my street photography I made a photo of a Starbucks shop window.
This photograph is therefore more important than it may appear. At least on a personal level.
Remark how this year I returned, after three years spent with a significantly different project, to do my own thing which is the classic street photography that I have never stopped loving. When I decided to propose that mini project in Los Angeles, I still had no idea that that particular photograph would have marked the fate of everything that followed in a particular way.
As a street photographer I have always sought a personal vision. Which certainly nourished itself with many visions, readings, listening and experiences. I often use reflections on shop windows. At one point I said enough not to repeat myself excessively, but then I also said to myself: and why should I do it if somehow this is a kind of trademark and that those who are familiar with my work can recognize it as such without even seeing the author's name?
Yesterday I was almost at the end of the hours dedicated to me and my photographing in the center. And suddenly I walk past the starbucks and see the scene. I shoot immediately, without waiting too long. An instinctive, rapid framing, which allowed me to capture a moment and a reflection, a dimension, of the colors, to tangibly offer the sensation of the place with that green bus that one immediately recognizes as Mexico City, even if the buses now they are all changing, passing to the color purple and this fact will contribute, once again, to change the perception of the Chilango landscape.
I hate Starbucks for their coffee. But I love their showcases, for my photos.
