The Street Photography that I like is a constant gamble

Making the photography that I do is an absolutely different way from the one that counts with a more thoughtful approach. It certainly exposes me more to failure while on the street, but I accept it as part of the game.

What I wanted for my photography is oriented towards something that has to do with the idea of a certainly imperfect photograph, where the out of focus is always around the corner. When you go to zone focus, a technique used by many street photographers, if you master it is OK, in fact it exposes you even less to error than relying on autofocus. But keep in mind one thing about my photography: I am photographing with a totally manual third party lens which is quite inaccurate. The fact that I have gained experience and know how to work discreetly does not mean that I have eliminated all the problems that arise from its use.

The street photography I prefer is not the static one of many photographers who are quite sedentary compared to the locations and tend to walk little, focusing on one place. My action feeds on movement and instinct. I recognize three characteristics of my experience on the street:

  • Istinct

  • Reactivity

  • Speed of execution

Not many photographers are willing to take certain risks and this can be seen from the type of work proposed. My quick thoughts run faster than mulling over how best the photograph would be to do. This is fundamental in the way of shooting on the street. It all depends on what kind of photographer you want to be, and mine is no better than another approach, it's just ... different. I married the snapshot aesthetic many years ago. I did it consciously and my choices as to which cameras to use also went in that direction.

The photographs that I make are realized in full manual (with auto ISO), another another thing that must be considered, because many think that it is very difficult for street photography to shoot in this way. It certainly requires mastery of the medium and constant concentration. But I feel that this is the only way I can get the kind of images I want.
