DÍA DE MUERTOS IN MEXICO CITY
DÍA DE MUERTOS IN MEXICO CITY – STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP 2026
Dates: October 30 – November 2, 2026
Participants: Maximum 8
Price: 1,900 USD
Early Bird (until August 30): 1,600 USD
Overview
After a decade leading Día de Muertos expeditions in Oaxaca, I felt it was time for a shift. Oaxaca has turned into a magnet for tours and workshops, and the atmosphere I loved has become harder to access.
Starting in 2026, the expedition moves to Mexico City, a place that has embraced Día de Muertos with incredible energy. The city offers a mix of intimate moments and chaotic beauty. From spontaneous street gatherings to neighborhood ofrendas and late night processions, the capital has become a fascinating place to work during these days.
This is not about chasing costumes or posed Catrinas.
This is pure street and documentary photography, done with intention and honesty, working with what the city gives us.
What to Expect
Across four intense days, we’ll move through Centro Histórico, Roma, Condesa, and Coyoacán. You’ll work on being present, reading situations, and reacting instinctively while still building a coherent visual story.
There will be strong shooting sessions and time to slow down: editing, reviewing your work, and talking about ideas and meaning.
We start with the atmosphere leading into Día de Muertos, then follow the rhythm of the city as celebrations come to life on the streets.
For Whom
This expedition is for photographers who want to go deeper. If you believe photography is about observation, timing, and sincerity rather than spectacle, you’ll feel at home.
Experience helps, but it’s not essential. Curiosity matters more.
You Will Gain
A small but cohesive photo essay shot during the expedition.
Personal guidance on vision and editing.
More clarity on how to work intuitively and respectfully in public spaces.
A stronger sense of awareness when photographing real life.
Gear Recommendations
Keep it simple and mobile.
One camera with a 28 or 35mm lens is ideal.
Bring extra batteries and SD cards.
A laptop with Lightroom or Capture One for editing sessions.
Important Note
The itinerary is flexible. We will adapt to what happens in the city and focus on the most compelling photographic situations. The goal is always to stay connected to the real heartbeat of Mexico City.
