This immersive workshop invites photographers to explore the vibrant streets of Oaxaca, using the camera as a tool to uncover their personal vision. Designed for both passionate amateurs and experienced professionals—whether you are a fine art photographer, documentary photographer, or someone looking to refine your creative eye—this experience will push you to develop a distinct photographic voice.
Through spontaneous and direct shooting, participants will be encouraged to embrace the unpredictability of the environment, capturing authentic moments that reflect their perspective. In addition to daily photo walks, the workshop will focus on honing your intuitive editing skills, with personalized feedback sessions designed to help you elevate your work. Together, we’ll explore how to see beyond the surface, using photography to express deeper stories and take your craft to the next level.

Friday 07/25 Day 1: Arrival & Introduction to Oaxaca
Morning: Arrival in Oaxaca and group welcome meeting at the designated meeting point.
Overview of the workshop: Discussion of personal goals and what it means to "find your vision."
Theme: The role of the street photographer in cultural events.
Group assignment: Pre-Guelaguetza festival preparations.
Afternoon: First guided photo walk.
Focus: Oaxaca’s urban textures, local markets, street vendors, and artisans preparing for the festival.
Objective: Capture the energy and ambiance leading up to the Guelaguetza.
Evening: Group critique session.
Review: Initial images and personalized feedback.
Theme: How to adapt your approach to spontaneous moments.
Saturday 07/26 Day 2: Guelaguetza Celebrations – Focus on Portraiture
Morning: Early morning photo walk.
Assignment: Portraiture in the context of cultural events.
Location: Mercado de Abastos, focusing on indigenous people and performers arriving in Oaxaca for the Guelaguetza.
Afternoon: Guelaguetza rehearsals and street performances.
Objective: Work on close, intimate street portraits while engaging with the performers.
Theme: Capturing emotion and storytelling through portraits.
Evening: Group critique and feedback session.
Discussion: How portraits can reveal deeper narratives in cultural environments.
Post-processing tips: Emphasizing simplicity and enhancing mood through editing.
Sunday 07/27 Day 3: Guelaguetza Day – Capturing the Festival's Essence
Morning: Full day dedicated to the Guelaguetza festival.
Assignment: Documenting the performances.
Location: Cerro del Fortín auditorium and surrounding areas.
Afternoon: Street photography session.
Focus: The festival participants and crowd reactions.
Objective: Combining wide-angle street scenes with intimate details to tell the story of the Guelaguetza.
Evening: One-on-one feedback sessions.
Review: Each participant's approach and editing workflow.
Theme: Maintaining authenticity in chaotic environments.
Monday 07/28 Day 4: Exploration Beyond the Festival – Documentary Work
Morning: Photo walk in surrounding Oaxacan villages.
Assignment: Documentary-style photography.
Objective: Explore life outside the festival, focusing on daily routines in rural Oaxaca.
Afternoon: Visit to a local artisan’s workshop.
Theme: Capturing craftsmanship and the intersection of tradition and modernity.
Evening: Editing session and group critique.
Objective: Crafting a cohesive photo essay that reflects personal vision and narrative.
Advanced Editing Techniques: How to build a story with a visual flow.
Tuesday 07/29 Day 5: Portfolio Development & Personal Vision
Morning: Final photo walk – "Finding Your Vision".
Assignment: Participants independently capture images that reflect their evolving photographic style.
Objective: Apply lessons from the week to produce a final set of images.
Afternoon: Final critique and portfolio review.
Discussion: Developing a unique photographic voice.
One-on-one mentoring: Personalized feedback for each participant, focusing on how to move forward after the workshop.
Evening: Closing ceremony with presentation of certificates and exclusive prints.
Celebration: Participants' work is featured on The Street Photography Channel on YouTube.
Final Dinner: A group dinner is included in the workshop price to celebrate the end of the experience. This will be a moment to reflect on the journey, share final thoughts, and celebrate the achievements of each participant.
