Cuautepec, Barrio Bajo

Yesterday, I ventured into Cuautepec, camera strapped to my wrist.

Now, Cuautepec isn't exactly known for its tourist hordes or picturesque streets. It's a place most photographers would give a wide berth to. But that's the beauty of street photography, isn't it?For me is not about the cool picture to receive likes on instagram. It's about capturing the essence of a place, thwe human condition, how of real Mexico I can capture.

Street photography often gets pigeonholed as capturing the bustling energy of downtowns. But there's a whole world waiting to be discovered beyond the well-trodden paths. Sometimes, the most compelling narratives unfold in the so-called "rough" areas. Yesterday in Cuautepec, because I went to the post office which is closest where I live, I found a different kind of beauty, between a landscapist observation and the urbanism. It's a challenge, for sure, but that's part of the thrill.
