10 years: the Leica work on assignment memory

10 years. Leica Camera AG and me. Let me share some thoughts here.

Tattoos Girl. People of Chapultepec. 2013. Leica Camera AG work on assignment by Alex Coghe

PROJECT: PEOPLE OF CHAPULTEPEC (2013), work on assignment for Leica Camera AG

PHOTOGRAPHY TYPE: Street Photography/ Social Documentary/ Portraits

CAMERA USED: Leica X2

10 years.

Exactly 10 years ago I receive a phone call from Germany.

Leica wants me to make a commercial work. They ask me if I feel myself ready for that. I am excited, I know that is something not happening to many photographers to receive a proposal like that. I understand the high responsability to take that work, but I want to do it. And I do it.

The rest is history: I choose PEOPLE OF CHAPULTEPEC as documentary project. That work is published in a catalog altogether with the work of Yvonne Venegas where Leica X and X2 are introduced.

In the same year I am interviewed for the Leica promo video and an article is featured on the LEICA CAMERA BLOG.

That work is one of the best professional experiences in my career.

With my street photography I showed to achieve a great goal like that.

10 years are passed by. I am a better photographer. I am aware today I could make a better work too. That assignment still is a milestone. But I feel that I can achieve more in future.

Are you new here and yet are not familiar with the work realized for Leica? I share the correct links for you:

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE ASSIGNMENT

I can say only good things about Leica Camera AG. The treatment reserved for me and then with all the photographers with whom they work is the best a photographer could wish for. An absolutely respectful client of the work and professionalism of the photographer to whom the work is commissioned. Impeccable from the point of view of the monetary evaluation of a work of this type, they ensure that the photographer cannot complain at all. It should be considered that the customer has presented precise guidelines to be respected, but all in a clear and well-defined manner. During the course of the assigned work I had only one request for further images to add, their typology, in order to enhance certain characteristics of the product to be advertised, for the rest I had ample creative freedom, thus feeling total trust placed in me.

There were some customs issues which delayed unlocking the camera: despite the tight production and delivery times, they were patient and supported me in all eventualities. At all times, I felt full support, trust, a human and truly present contact that allowed me to face this commitment with the utmost dedication, in order to give them photographic work worthy of the brand.

Such a high level of professionalism is difficult to find in the world of photography in general. I talk about every aspect and every filter I've come across, from the first one with the phone call from the marketing executive to the finance area.

After 10 years I am still proud of the work made for them. As I said, today being a better photographer than then, I could certainly make an even more refined product. But it certainly rarely happens to pinpoint such a milestone in your career. I did it with Leica. 10 years ago.
