Canon cameras for me
Almost completed the complete switch to Canon. I share the reasons for my choice.
A thoughtful choice, which takes into account many factors, always in line with what I'm doing as a photographer.
Avoiding hearing the marketing sirens and also what is considered to be cool by other photographers. By other street photographers, in particular. So here is that by necessarily abandoning the brand I come from, I realized the infinite advantages that my choice to work with Canon cameras has produced. In particular:
In Mexico, the coverage of the brand in terms of presence in the territory of authorized stores is unrivaled. And that includes technical assistance.
Canon has certainly made up for the lost positions with respect to the mirrorless sector on which, as is well known, it is now aiming for the future.
They maintain competitive prices with a value for money that is currently the best on the market. Even in the second-hand market you can find cameras easily.
By owning already 2 Canon DSLRs I can see how the work is consistent, with the beautiful colors produced by Canon. Soon a mirrorless camera will be added to my equipment, the Canon EOS M200.
M200 is considered a camera for beginners and a good solution for YouTubers. With that said I choose a small and light camera, a small one for real, which, however, continues to be a system with interchangeable lenses and this is a considerable advantage. And it will actually be my entry into the mirrorless world with Canon.
With M200 I can obatain again a 35mm focal lenght tha for DSLR Canon doesn’t have really one: the 22mm of the mirrorless system provides an equivalent focal length of 35.2mm.
Again for me will be a new challenge and I am pretty sure I will show what results as a street photographer I can achieve with a camera considered for beginners, where I will have to work in a way that is not so popular among street photographers. It wouldn't be the first time that many photographers decide to buy a camera because they've seen my photos.
…and, in any case, I don’t care if you will buy it or not. I am not a brand ambassador and not even interested to do it again. This is just my choice, what I believe to be the best choice for this new phase of my career.
I have already said about the benefits of working with cameras that don't have short battery life. And something also I always hated by Fujifilm is the power button that turns on easily even when the camera is in the bag.
I have worked with cameras of all kinds, even in the places considered to be the most dangerous, even Leica and a medium format. But what I observe is a better reception of the Canon camera in the barrios. And the Canon are widely recognized as…the cameras. By now it is clear to me that cameras are not really a call of attack simply because there is no market, in the sense that selling cameras is more of a problem. At least this is my experience. When people look at me with a camera I receive requests to photograph them.
If I made this choice digitally, it is not just as a street photographer. Even for commercial photography I can count on consistency of results in aesthetic terms. By counting soon with a camera that is good also for videos declares what my intentions are also as a commercial photographer. I am already able to propose videos as part of professional services.
The M200 is going to change a lot of things, I'd say it's a futuristic push with respect to my way of working so far. I give up on working with the zone focusing technique completely.
So guys, I hope you appreciated this sharing with you the reasons for my choice. I'm curious what you think. I repeat, being my choice, something that will only affect my photographing and that absolutely doesn’t want to follow my own steps, I am also open to the most negative thought compared to this.
