Canon EOS M200 is with me and now the switch is completed

I finally bought the EOS M200 yesterday, my first Canon mirrorless.

A premise to those who are asking me about this change

Despite what I thought I didn't make it. After being a victim of discrimination by Fujifilm and removed from their ambassador program after 6 years due to my political views, particularly about the Italian government, I could no longer see the cameras they produced in the same way and using them bothered me. I started selling them, one by one and initially thought I'd stick with the Fujifilm XPro2. But then I saw that I was always using the Canon Rebel T7 and that I no longer wanted to have a Fujifilm camera. Inevitably, I associated it with an event that is against everything a journalist should believe: the discrimination for personal ideas. The last step was to sell it. Initially I thought that from the sale I would buy a Ricoh GR, a compact that has all my respect and that of many street photographers around the world. But then I noticed the M100 and therefore the M200: very small in size and in a certain way associated with the philosophy of a discreet and not flashy compact, just like a Ricoh, but unlike a Ricoh GR, counting with a real system of interchangeable lenses. Also the DSLR system I have from Canon doesn’t count with a FF 35mm equivalent, because the 24mm is an equivalent 38.4mm. It seems so little the difference but believe me is an important difference, to the point that the approach on the streets changes. And despite I achieved in these months to make good photography, I still I felt the need for a 35mm equivalent and so I discovered that Canon's M system has a 22mm which for the multiplication factor corresponds in full format to a 35.2mm. Perfect!

So yesterday I bought the Canon EOS M200.

A camera that many buy to use for video shooting. And indeed the camera is also proposed as a tool for content creators, especially targeting YouTube videos. While I don’t hide you the fact that this hybrid nature also interests me for my new landing on videos, I will use it mostly for my Street Photography. Because I strongly believe that is a an underrated camera for this type of photography.

A camera with a responsive touch screen which thus confirms its hybrid nature, winking at smartphone owners. And that's the real change for me as photographer. We go from something very mechanical like zone focusing to a much more automatic way of working. It doesn't scare me, on the contrary it excites me.

Let me say that I think the best set up with this camera is with the 22mm f2 lens, a pancake exactly my favorite kind of lenses when it comes to Street Photography. And I could have bought it already yesterday, but I prefer to wait. I prefer to work and study this 15-45 kit lens first.

Well, the time has come to test it. I will do this and you will see the results through photos and videos. follow this blog and my Youtube channel.
