Canon M200: the reasons of my choice
Having seen it accompanied by the 22mm lens, purchased yesterday, many are already asking me questions, interested in knowing the reasons for my choice.
Anytime I switch to a new camera manufacturer I achieve that brand sells camera because photographers have seen my choice. I am not an influencer and I hate to be defined like that but I influence people in some way. This is the reason why brands over the years involved me as ambassador or proposed me assignments.
When I happen to choose my work tool, I only pay attention to myself and what I can get for my photography. And what works for me doesn't necessarily work or be understood by others.
I will speak more in detail about my choice in the next videos and reviews. But I would clarify a thing: not any camera is bought as the definitive camera (this maybe is possible only with film cameras) and there is in "a photographer life" serval transitions and phases. After I worked a lot with manual focus lenses I felt the need to have a point & shoot camera where I am always ready to go, not thinking that much and just focusing on composition and content before pressing the shutter button. I would a camera allowing me to make good quality videos and also a very small camera.
At first I had considered the Ricoh GR (I worked in the past for 5 years with a GRD IV and I loved it) but it was above my budget: this year I spent already my money for the T7 and the 24mm, and then...this is my entry in mirrorless cameras made by Canon. Now in digital I have only Canon cameras and this means also consistence in terms of aesthetics and counting with the same menu system. For the future there will be other mirrorless cameras by the moment Canon (and Nikon) switched completely to this system. There is the RF system if I will decide to go with FF. In this moment I am happy with the smallest mirrorless I ever owned. And I am pretty sure I can make a good work with it.
To better explain what I say I think it is useful to list my digital equipment now what it consists of:
CANON REBEL T3 with mounted the Yongnuo 50mm f1.8 (FF equivalent 80mm). Applications: Portraits, Fashion, Photojournalism
CANON REBEL T7 with the lens EFS 24mm f2.8 (FF equivalent 38.4mm). Applications: Photojournalism, Street Photography, Portraits, Fashion.
Canon EOS M200 with EFM 22mm f2 (FF equivalent 35.2mm). Applications: Video, Street Photography.
Canon M200 counts also with the kit lens 15-45mm, but I don’t think to use it that much.
As for me, based solely on what is my business as a photographer I am covered. My choices aren't trendy, they don't appeal to the palates of many photographers today who feel cooler with a fake rangefinder or more vintage aesthetics, but I can survive this. Because the only thing that matters in the end is the results produced.
Stay tuned because soon I will publish reviews here.
