First Contact: my new Street Photography Set-Up is a great small change

It is finally here with me. My new street photography combo is a mirrorless with extremely compact dimensions.

My choice was made for three reasons:

  • A hybrid camera capable of offering good quality for both photography and video

  • An extremely compact mirrorless system

  • A lens with a focal length equivalent to 35mm

This is the smallest and lightest camera ever owned. Not even the Panasonic GF2 was that small. Until a few years ago it was impossible to think that an APS-C sensor could fit in such a small space. This camera makes me think of the Ricoh GR for discretion and compactness, but without a lens that stretches, in exchange we have a pancake which is the type of lens I prefer.

The switch to Canon is now complete.

I have finally found this combination which is a joy for the eyes and the experience that comes with it. I gain invisibility, an added value for us street photographers. With a 35.2mm (equivalent in FF) lens I back to work with my favorite focal lenght, the lens that is like my eye.

Just look how it falls into my hand!

This is a great tool for Street Photography despite is not that much considered (so far things will change) by street photographers because many get lost in the trends. But…this morning I shared a photo and I have already seen so many showing interest for my choice and they said me the camera looks beautiful.

This is a great tool for Street Photography and I am repeating myself because I want to assure you that I will prove that I am not wromg. Images produced will speak for this set-up.

This morning i bought the lens and I couldn't wait: I sat down on a bench and mounted the lens to start using it. The camera with this pancake looks even smaller. And is so light! I photographed and I…photographed. When before this purchase I was using the camera mostly for videos. It is a pleasure. It feels like…my Olympus Pen E-P1, but faster in AF.

OK, this is not the hands on review. You have to be patient for that, so that's all for today, guys.
