Christina Ricci, Richard Kern and my idea of portrait photography
Christina Ricci is pregnant and Richard Kern photographed her. This is sufficient to celebrate.
On facebook I shared the photograph and I say: should I explain again why Richard Kern is one of my favorite photographers?
When we google maternity photos our eyes are attacked by sickly images, of sweet pink and rhetoric of tenderness, with revolting bokeh, white vignetting, fake backgrounds…
Richard Kern's photography slaps all of this. Christina, who I have always considered a very good actress but also a dream to photograph, is perfect in this imperfect image.
And my idea of portrait photography is essentially this. Used to working with natural light and not retouching the image, except for really light things, I absolutely embrace Richard Kern's approach.
