Highlights December 2021
Here we go with the last best of the month selection for this year.
Photographing people from behind has become a necessity these days. A street photographer must be able to respond to what the times mark. Let's not fool ourselves that sometimes a photo from behind is better than always seeing people with masks. The important thing is to always make sure that the image makes sense as a photograph. In this case, luck and intuition have allowed me to combine chromatically and obtain an image pleasing to the eye.
In returning to photograph the shop windows of cafes, I respond to something that in the past has given me various satisfactions.
Within three days I made two photos that can be considered sequential. In both I think he managed to catch some really interesting expressions. And the expressions, dear readers, often make the story in one click.
Speaking of luck, here's a photo that found me in the right place at the right time. The composition makes her an absolute protagonist. Those four raised give dynamism. In my photography I feel the influence of certain photographers who have taught me to see scenes of everyday life that underline its extraordinary nature in absolutely normal moments.
When I told a friend who is in charge of video making about my choice to use a Canon for my street he told me that he couldn't wait to see the results because he was sure that I would definitely do a good job. I don’t hide that I still think about that sentence. Because working with a 2011 DSLR was something of a challenge to myself. When I decided to buy the 24mm I knew I would have had a time to get used to it. It is an equivalent 38.4 with a reduced angle. And let's face it: the reflex exposes you more. I see it with everyone who is asking me for a photo on the street. Even more than before. The point was to reverse these difficulties to my advantage. And I feel like I'm already doing it. I have had the lens for less than a month and these are the results.
Life's moment like that are one of the goals for my photography. I believe that although we are going through a very dark period in the history of humanity we can still find a lot of poetry and love on the street.
Another photo of the shoulders proposed in this selection because you look at the light on the hat: the particular makes the photo for me.
Only a street photographer can understand what it means to make such a photo on the street. Filling the frame is one of the leitmotifs. And it must do it with things that are useful for the image. I'm glad I can do this.
Even if a poignant image this is one of the most classically street I've done this year. Relate three elements to the composition: bare feet, Safe Travels writing and shoes inside the shop makes the photo a street photo.
I'm not crazy about photographing people with masks, but this is what exists now and we must make a virtue of necessity. In this case, I was struck by how well the mask with that design renders the optical game. And photography is often about making clear what the photographer has noticed.
Some notes
This year has been a terrific year for my street photography and I am so happy for this. This last month in particular has a lot of photos that I think are good and it was not easy to make a selection. This year I continued to go downtown, although it is not recommended to do so this month, due to assaults. You must consider that I return by bus to the north of the city, but the spirit of the photographic mission prevailed over fear. It also helps mentally to know that I only have the old DSLR with me and not an expensive camera.
