Humanist otherwise not good

As an observer and photographer, as a writer and photography enthusiast, everything is always connected to humanity.

From the work on assignment for Leica Camera AG People of Chapultepec, 2013

The sublime side of my research is found in the humanist identity. A desire that becomes a mission and a mental approach connected with the other person, who you have in front of you, how you observe him/her, how you find him/her interesting, how you can tell about him/her.

Too often we think of the portrait of people as a stylistic exercise and a mere reproduction of the person in a photographic dimension. I am interested in that communication and that exchange that takes place while I speak and photograph.

When I found myself doing the work for Leica Camera AG they asked me for a more spontaneous work and therefore many photos of that project were not approved for the catalog. The work in my idea was a mixture of street photography and photojournalism, with portraits set to make the idea of the people who frequent the park less distant. If I had only done street photography, with photography without asking permission it would have been a completely different job from what I had in mind and, in my opinion, it would not have worked.

I kept in mind the requests of the client Leica and so I did the work as they wanted, knowing full well that the complete work had a very different dimension. That dimension presented that humanist gaze that also presents me as a portrait photographer which is then my essence as a commercial and artistic photographer who in the following year, 2014, proposed an editorial work such as MEXICANA.

In all my photography, be it pure street, portraits or photojournalism, I believe the dignity of the people portrayed and respect never fail. I'm not interested in the humorous or bad side of photography.
