I am pleased to introduce you my new Street Photography zine:

Why KOY?

Koy is a reference to the Koi carp that I have tattooed on my right forearm and in Japanese culture is considered a symbol of luck. The Koy fish is also associated with perseverance in adversity and strength of purpose, abundance and perseverance. In Buddhism the Koy carp is a symbol of courage.

Why KOY STREET ZINE?

I think that this historical phase for everyone and that has stopped many street photographers, making them discover a creative crisis must be rejected precisely with a strong motivation to go to the street and take pictures.

I think that Street Photography right now is the actual photojournalism.

I will try to explain this: Street Photography aims to capture everyday life in public places, offering a documentation about society. Today with the emergency linked to the Coronavirus and the establishment of new rules and social habits, we as street photographers have the opportunity to photograph and offering an instrument for understanding this historical period for the human being.

Street Photography can be relevant if we go back to documenting, avoiding visual games and the approach of street photography as a joke. We can make also photos with irony and discovering, in the tragedy, a funny moment, but in a way that is different from the drift of recent years.

From a personal point of view after my commitment with my street social landscape project dedicated to the barrios, AMERICANA, with whom in 2020 I presented an exhibition in Mexico City Downtown, I went back to doing a more classic Street Photography. Consider it a reaction to the situation we are all experiencing or simply a return to what I most love and feel mine.

I am photographing almost everywhere, from Polanco to Tepito. I feel the fire inside because I feel in a new creative phase, particularly prolific and different from before. And I started wondering where to share all this new work of mine.

OK, the website and social media, but hey, I am a photographer and a publisher and I want to give something more to my followers and clients. And here is the idea of a new zine, entirely dedicated to my street photography. A zine that will be offered in electronic and printed edition. A zine that will allow me to feel on assignment when I am around taking pictures.

This new project is also a tribute to a city that I consider perfect to make Street Photography. It will be a dynamic way to share my work with only those willing to have something special from a photographer that they appreciate. With the hope that what I do will inspire other photographers to take to the streets to photograph. As witnesses of our time.

This zine is for you, dear street photographer.
