Photojournalism: Devotees of San Judas Tadeo celebrate in the church of San Hipólito

The image of San Judas Tadeo is part of the daily landscape in many places in Mexico. Particularly in Mexico City, with the annual pilgrimage to the Church of San Hipólito, absolute popularity has been forged for this saint who for many years remained in oblivion despite having been, according to the Bible, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. .

Known as 'patron of difficult causes' and for this particularly revered by the people who live in the most popular neighborhoods. Kids who have alcohol or drug problems, for example, the little thief who asks to help him stop crime. The popular idea has spread that criminals pray to Saint Jude for protection. In the Church of San Hipólito, year after year, people come who inhale glue inside the temple, but the stigmata are far from reflecting the community fervor that San Judas Taddheus represents. Although in some places in Mexico San Judas is seen near Santa Muerte and Jesus Malverde, being one of the twelve apostles (not to be confused with San Judas Iscariota) is obviously a saint recognized by the church. Another particularity is that San Judas looks a lot like Jesus Christ in iconography.

Every 28th of each month, the followers of San Judas go to the temple to thank the favors done and to be able to listen to mass, but on October 28th it is the biggest celebration.

Oración a San Judas Tadeo

Prayer to San Judas Tadeo

O glorious Apostle Saint Jude! Faithful servant and friend of Jesus. The name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of his enemies has caused many to forget you, but the Church honors you and invokes you universally as the patron saint of difficult and desperate cases. Pray for me that I am so miserable and make use, I beg of you, of that special privilege granted to you to help visible and promptly when all hope is almost lost. Come to my aid in this great need, so that I may receive the consolations and help of heaven in all my needs, tribulations and sufferings, particularly (make each of your special pleas here), and so that I may bless God with you and with all the chosen for all eternity.
