Let’s say it: when you get close to your subject to take a picture with a mask you are going to be weirdo. Masks are not helping your photography at all. Anyone with a minimal street photo experience knows how smiling is important.

These are hard times also for us, the street photographers. Communication is not verbal on the street most of the time. We don’t ask permission to make a photograph including a person.

With that said by making photos looking through the viewfinder exposes to eye contact. We always need to make it with a sense: smiles or the sign of victory is not the reaction we look for in the most of the cases. We have to wait the right moment, I call it wondering moment where it appears a big question mark in the expression of the subject. It can be achieved with practice, and yes…be a little cheeky.
