The family photos

I share in this blog photographs of my parents to propose a refleation about the importance of photography as document and memory.

Please note: this article was already published on my Italian blog fotoreportando.

Measuring myself with editing this work with the idea of publishing on the internet represented a challenge for me from many points of view: first of all, proposing photos that are still part of something intimate. Consequently I had to do a dissociation work even before the actual editing to make my choices based only on my experience as a photo editor.

It is interesting to observe how the photos presented in this post sometimes present elements that can be compared to street photography (the shadow of the photographer), other times more specifically documentary as in the photo of the petrol pump and that of my mother struggling with one of her passions: painting. It is also the fashion aspect that I have decided to favor in my choices: it is very interesting to observe the clothes, but also the poses of my mother. From a purely technical point of view, I was very impressed to observe how vertical cutting was used for many photos.

Through the photos I can see a scene from their first date. And that my mother liked to play a little modeling, which I never would have thought. The importance of photography as document and memory is evident, even in family photos.
