Why a blog is fundamental for a better Street Photography engagement with your audience

Guys, even in 2022 for a street photographer to have a blog is the best sollution to present him/her online. It doesn’t matter how the social media has grown up and the fact people is more and more lazy and reads less and less.

It is no coincidence that I chose this photo for this post. This photograph has been censored and I did have my facebook account suspended 30 days on Facebook, while the image was immediately deleted on Instagram. If you want to know the story behind that censorship please watch the video:

This means when it comes to photography social media is not the best place to propose our work. They are politically correct and they are for the censorship anytime something is not following the unique thought. But they are also unable to discern art and violent or porn content. social media essentially is crap because crappy is their policy.

On social media you will find these issues:

  • Your content is published in the form as is organized and decided by that social media.

  • Your content is placed in a jungle of advertising.

  • Your content is in a generalistic context, not focused only on photography.

  • You might get banned for no good reason.

  • You can find more trolls and haters.

  • Your content will be censored.

  • You are giving for free your content to monopolistic firms like Blackrock, connected with the bad things happening to this planet.

By having your own blog on your personal domain you will propose your work without issues because is the only place online where you really have the complete control over the content and the form you present yourself. You literally tell your story and decide how it’s told.

The contact is direct and essentially aimed at your audience. Those who decide to visit your site are looking for you and the content you propose. Don't get me wrong, social networks can be interesting for finding new people and even new potential customers, but you have to consider the website as center of gravity and the blog is the dynamic voice of your website.

The important thing if you decide to run a blog is just one:

Blog on a regular basis

Your audience will feel more engaged and your website will always be dynamic. Content-wise you have to try to be interesting to every post you make, but they don't have to be full text posts. Images and videos have a great strength within a post.

And to conclude this post, let me say a thing once again: dear street photographers, to blog our experience on the street is an important commitment that can be useful for the entire worldwide street photography community. We really need more street photographers with their own blog, ready to share their everyday experience.
