QUALE DISTANZA (translated as WHAT DISTANCE) is a black-and-white street photography work, created in Italy between May and June 2016. Breaking away from the traditional street photography approach that emphasizes close-up shots and proximity to subjects, adopting a radically different perspective, maintaining a significant physical distance from his subjects.
This unconventional method shifts the focus from individuals to the public space, turning the urban environment into a central character. With this work, I put at the center the relationship between people and their surroundings, offering a fresh visual narrative that prioritizes context, architecture, and spatial composition.
The photos in this work document diverse Italian settings, from the historic city centers rich in architectural heritage to the minimalist beachside structures along the coast. Human figures appear throughout the series, sometimes as dominant subjects, sometimes as minor presences in a broader urban or natural landscape.
Through this work I invite the viewers to reflect on the interaction between individuals and public space, emphasizing how historical, architectural, and environmental elements are just as essential to the story as the people who inhabit them. This series is a visual meditation that expands the boundaries of classic street photography, presenting a new way to document everyday life in contemporary Italy.
