This photograph is in a way a document of an era, at the dawn of the explosion of street photography worldwide.
I was in Los Angeles for the competition / exhibition event sponsorized by Leica Camera AG and that took place at the Think Tank Gallery in Fashion District, in the heart of DTLA (Los Angeles downtown).
Only foreigner in the competition, Italian yet presented as Alex from Mexico, while everyone was photographing with expensive cameras, with the Leica M9 the most popular, some Hasselblad, Rolleiflex, Bessa Voigtlander, Mamiya…I was there just with my Olympus E-P1 with the 17mm Pancake.
Definitely less experienced than today and maybe not quite aware of what I was doing but certainly very enthusiastic and motivated, became a professional photographer for a few months, I achieved to make this photograph. A photo that would become iconic in my photographic journey. A photograph that has been around the world in various galleries.
