Street Photos, Science fiction and Schwarzenegger
One of my favorite science fiction movies was filmed in Mexico City.
Total Recall is a science fiction action film. It was directed by Paul Verhoeven. The film stars are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone. It is based on the short story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale by Philip K. Dick, my favorite science fiction writer.
If Total Recall was completely filmed in Mexico City using the Estudios of Churubusco, the train station scenes were shot at the Mexico City Metro in Metro Insurgentes, close to Glorieta de Insurgentes. It is a particular place from which you can walk to the districts of Roma and Condesa and where I photographed many times during these years.
Inevitable to think of that film every time I reach this place. A sort of respect due to the place that was the background of scenes in the movie. Always crowded with people, one thing that hasn't changed even in these two dystopian years.
The billboard of one of Netflix's most successful series La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) is used in this shot to give an idea of the place. A landscape reflection of a place that for me always remains a reminder of that science fiction film inspired by a story by a great man of literature.
