ABOUT ZONA ROSA
The Zona Rosa is an eastern segment, and the last to be developed, of Colonia Juárez in the Cuauhtémoc mayor's office, IN Mexico city. It is located between the central sections of Paseo de la Reforma, Avenida de los Insurgentes and Avenida Chapultepec. In the last 60 years, it has established itself as one of the benchmarks of gay culture in Mexico and, to a certain extent, has favored the opening of safe spaces in CDMX.
It is currently a financial district, an area of shops, restaurants and nightclubs that had to adapt to the new normality and that have survived the pandemic. Reference places for the community such as Cabaretitos, El Almacén or Rico coexist with offices, government agencies, residential buildings, shops and the wide range of restaurants around them. Added to these are the diverse populations: visitors, tourists, the Asian community in the area and the LGBTTTIQA community. It is a meeting place and the meeting point for many of the contingents that march as a symbol of protest in CDMX, including the LGBTTTIQA Pride March.
THE PRINT
The photograph of a wall covered with broken billboards is the representation of a place but also of a concept. The essence of the place is represented through a detail within the district that has become important to the history of the LGBTTTIQA community in Mexico.
